Joan Lopez


Joan B. Lopez serves as Secretary of the Airman Heritage Foundation and provides a most valuable corporate memory for the organization. She began working for the USAF in 1966 and retired in 2003 after 37 years as a civil service employee at Lackland AFB. Her early career years were spent performing administrative and secretarial duties. After completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Management she entered the Management ranks and was promoted to a Program Analyst position as Base Plans Officer where she managed the installation’s war and contingency planning program. She moved to the 37th Training Wing Programs Division developing programming plans for a variety of base-wide activities and events. Lopez is a Board member of the Air Force Federal Credit Union and Executive Secretary of AFA Texas. In 2003 she helped establish the forerunner organization that has become the Airman Heritage Foundation. She has served as a Board member since then, continuing to honor the memory of her father, a retired SMSgt.
